Looking to avoid losing a fourth straight game for the first time this season, the Chicago Cubs are set to wrap up the extended weekend set against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.

Unfortunately, the series finale is delayed due to the weather in the area. The good news, though, is that it looks like we're in for a short delay, with the game expected to start shortly before 2 p.m. CT. The matchup was initially scheduled to begin at 12:40 p.m. CT.

Cubs vs. Reds Rain Delay: Latest updates on the forecast and when the game will start

All signs point to the two teams hopefully being able to wrap this thing up on Sunday. A strong thunderstorm hit the region in the early afternoon, but forecasts show things clearing out by mid-to-late afternoon after another round of showers rolls through.

Looking at the game itself, Craig Counsell and the Cubs hand the ball to veteran right-hander Jameson Taillon (10-6, 3.93 ERA), who has been riding a heater of late (1.69 ERA in his last four starts), although those outings were broken up by another IL stint.

Opposite Taillon, the Cubs get the misfortune of squaring off against left-hander Andrew Abbott (9-7, 2.88 ERA), who has already faced Chicago three times this year, beating them twice. He's allowed just five earned over 19 1/3 innings in those starts and boasts a sub-1.000 WHIP.

Both teams still have a lot to play for. The Cubs are looking to lock up the top seed in the NL Wild Card picture (and, hopefully, show some consistent signs of life offensively) while Terry Francona's Reds look to continue their late-season surge toward a postseason spot.

From here, Chicago returns home to close out the regular season with a final six-game homestand that kicks off against the New York Mets on Tuesday and wraps with a three-game weekend set against the St. Louis Cardinals.
