Not to be outdone by the additions the Chicago Cubs have made to their Major League roster, the team has announced an offseason addition to Wrigley Field.
A new section of seats will be available for Cubs fans at Wrigley Field, as the Cubs are debuting a new section named "The Yard".

The addition to Wrigley Field comes at an interesting time. Cubs' chairman Tom Ricketts made headlines recently for explaining why the Cubs will never spend the type of money that teams such as the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, and New York Mets spend.
The Cubs' caution with spending on the Major League seems to be influenced by the upcoming CBA negotiations. Given the spending habits of the Dodgers and Mets in recent offseasons, the belief is the next round of CBA talks wiil be heavily influenced by owners wanting to install a salary cap across Major League Baseball. If we're being honest, the owners wanting to install a salary speaks more to them wanting to maximize their profit than it does trying to create parity across all of the teams. Especially when a small-market team such as the San Diego Padres has proven it is possible to spend heavily.
It would also seem to be a tough ask from Ricketts. Make no mistake, the work Ricketts has done throughout the Wrigleyville area has been welcomed additions. But lost in those additions is that they were made under the guise of a separate LLC and not the Cubs. Of course, that won't be the case for "The Yard" as Ricketts has maintained that revenue made from gameday operations is funneled back into the baseball operations. Along those lines, tickets for "The Yard" experience seem to start at $700 for a 4-pack of tickets.
