One trade rumors that seemingly won't be put to rest for the Chicago Cubs this offseason is the idea that Seiya Suzuki may be on the move this winter.

During the Winter Meetings, prior to the Cubs completing their trade for Kyle Tucker and moving Cody Bellinger to the New York Yankees, speculation pointed to the Cubs trading Suzuki Even before the Tucker and Bellinger trades were completed, the idea of the Cubs moving Suzuki never quite made sense. Sure, Suzuki may have been upset that he was moved to being the team's designated hitter, but considering the context around that messaging from both his agent and the Cubs' front office, it never seemed like it was going to be the reason he was moved.

Now that the dust has settled from the Winter Meetings, it seems that the Cubs are moving forward with the core of their lineup being centered around Suzuki and Tucker. That is why it was strange that Suzuki's name kept being mentioned in a potential trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Jon Heyman had a passing mention of the Suzuki trade rumors in his latest for the New York Post on Friday morning.

"In addition to Teoscar Hernandez, Anthony Santander and a trade for Seiya Suzuki are on the table," Heyman reported.

The Seiya Suzuki trade rumors can officially be retired.

Fortunately, we've reached the point where the Suzuki rumors can finally be put to rest. Following Heyman's report on Friday morning, Hernandez and the Dodgers agreed to a three-year deal on Friday. With Hernandez officially returning to the Dodgers, this probably will be the last we hear of the Cubs potentially moving Suzuki this offseason.

Prior to Hernandez returning to the Dodgers, it was hard to imagine there was much interest on the Cubs' side in terms of trading Suzuki. The trade for Tucker cemented the fact that the Cubs are aiming to contend in 2025. Trading Suzuki, especially after the team already traded Bellinger, doesn't add up with that mindset.
