Seriously, I couldn't make this up if I tried.
After Pete Crow-Armstrong slugged his 10th home run of the month and things were looking up to start this week's road trip, the Chicago Cubs took one on the chin in the bottom of the fifth inning when starter Edward Cabrera suffered a lower-body injury and had to be carted off the field.

Attempting to cover first on a ground ball to Nico Hoerner, Cabrera stretched and, after receiving the throw, more or less did the splits and was immediately in pain, yelling out and grabbing his upper leg, and was shortly thereafter taken off the field via the medical cart.
The fact that Cabrera was pitching well for the first time in a while just adds insult to injury. Sure, Matthew Boyd's return is imminent, but just as the Cubs' rotation was inching closer to being in a better spot, Cabrera goes down... again.
Edward Cabrera's checkered health history has reared its ugly head
We knew when Jed Hoyer sent top prospect Owen Caissie to the Miami Marlins in the deal for Cabrera that it was a move that came with a good deal of risk. Even before this year, the right-hander had more than his fair share of injuries. He's been sidelined by blisters multiple times (including this season) and has battled some elbow issues, as well.
This year, he missed time due to a blister and left his last start with cramping in his right hand. Now, this injury appears to be far more serious than blisters or cramping - leaving the Cubs short-handed yet again, even as they try to keep the ship afloat.
On the year, Cabrera hasn't been anything to write home about. Even after five innings of two-run ball on Tuesday against the Mets, he has a 5.10 ERA on the season and hasn't completed six innings in a start since May 6. Chicago acquired him in hopes that he could take his game to the next level. Instead, he's been a major disappointment as yet another tough-luck pitching injury puts the Cubs on their heels.
