Cubs News: Pete Crow-Armstrong joins Javy Baez, AFL rosters, Alex Bregman

With each passing day, not only does Pete Crow-Armstrong cement his footing as the presumptive National League MVP, he makes a case for having the best season of any Chicago Cubs player ever. Crow-Armstrong's latest accomplishment happened earlier this week against the Atlanta Braves, hitting his 42nd home run of the season.

Crow-Armstrong is now tied with Billy Williams for the franchise record for home runs hit by a left-handed hitter during the regular season. A record Crow-Armstrong feels likely to break within the next week and a half. In addition, after Monday's game, Crow-Armstrong became the first Cubs player to have 100 runs score in a season and 100 RBI since Javy Baez in 2018.

Along those lines, while there's no discrediting what Kyle Schwarber has become since the Cubs non-tendered him after the 2020 season, the take doesn't really carry as much weigh as it did before this season. An injury prevented Myles Bailey from making his professional debut this summer after being drafted by the Chicago Cubs in July, but he is among the prospects participating in the Arizona Fall League this year.

While the Cubs had a tunnel-vision for pitching during this year's draft, the selection of Bailey did turn heads. Throughout the draft process, the impression was that Bailey was the best college power bat in the entire draft. There's also a healthy amount of swing-and-miss in his profile. Despite being on the injured list, Bailey has been working out at the team's spring training complex in Arizona and has been able to take part in batting practice.

Alex Bregman deemed one of the best signings of the offseason

It's shocking that Alex Bregman and the Cubs have reached this point, considering the struggles Bregman had during the first three months of the season, but it's reached the point where the veteran third baseman is suddenly looking like one of the best offseason deals made. Jon Heyman said as much during a recent appearance on MLB Network.

Entering play on Tuesday night, Bregman was slashing .262/.352/.448 with a wRC+ of 123, and 25 home runs. It certainly wasn't the exact path the Cubs envisioned when they signed Bregman last January, but the results are suddenly matching the type of player they described during his introductory press conference, and the one Jed Hoyer has been obsessed with for years.
