The 2026 MLB All-Star game was over as soon as it started. The American League raced out to a three-run lead in the first inning and never looked back. Chicago Cubs All-Star Pete Crow-Armstrong was one of the few National League hitters who didn't strikeout on Tuesday night, and he collected a single in his only plate appearance.

Chicago White Sox All-Star third baseman Miguel Vargas capped the night for the American League with a home run in the eighth inning, and it happened to be when Crow-Armstrong was mic'd in the outfield. Immediately off the bat, it was clear that Vargas got all of the pitch, and even Crow-Armstrong had to admire it.

Pete Crow-Armstrong shows love for White Sox, and Chicago Bears at All-Star game

Crow-Armstrong has become a central figure in Chicago sports. It certainly helps that he once again looks like a clear National League All-Star candidate, but even before this season, the young center fielder has become embedded in Chicago sports. During Tuesday's broadcast, Crow-Armstrong also expressed his excitement for the upcoming Chicago Bears season.

Cubs outright Jake Woodford in effort to keep pitching depth where they can find it

Jake Woodford made one lone appearance with the Chicago Cubs before being designated for assignment over the weekend. Woodford has since clear waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A Iowa.

With over four years of service time, Woodford can refuse the assignment and elect free agency. The 29-year-old has become somewhat of a journeyman over the last three years, so it wouldn't be a complete surprise to see him land a deal elsewhere. Teams are always looking for pitching depth, no matter what struggles an available pitcher may be going through. The Cubs have been proof of that this season.

Cubs pitching coach compares Cade Townsend to Jack Leiter and Walker Buehler

Marquee Sports Network ran an interview with Cubs pitching coach Tommy Hottovy earlier this week, and 2026 first-round pick Cade Townsend was a major part of the conversation. The biggest takeaway is that Hottovy pointed out that Townsend has a clean delivery, comparing it toJack Leiter and Walker Buehler.

Leiter was once one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball, and after posting a 3.86 ERA in 29 starts last season with the Texas Rangers, he had an ERA of 5.29 this season through 15 starts before being sidelined indefinitely due to ankle surgery. Buehler, of course, sat near the top of the Los Angeles Dodgers' starting rotation from 2017 through 2021.
