The revolving door behind Boog Sciambi as the play-by-play man for the Chicago Cubs on Marquee Sports Network seems to be closing finally, with the introduction of a full-time backup in longtime Iowa Cubs broadcaster Alex Cohen.

Cohen, who has been the voice of the I-Cubs on both radio and television for the better part of a decade, was the 2023 Ballpark Digest Broadcaster of the Year and made his MLB broadcasting debut last summer on Marquee - and was on the call for the team's historic combined no-hitter at Wrigley Field.

Cubs bring needed stability behind Boog Sciambi at Marquee Network

This is a great move by Marquee, not only promoting from within but giving the gig to someone with an intricate knowledge of the organization's top-heavy prospect mix, which should become increasingly relevant to fans watching the big-league team this year.

With Sciambi's responsibilities with ESPN, calling college basketball and Sunday Night Baseball, we've seen myriad folks step into the booth to fill his shoes, including Beth Mowins and Hall of Fame broadcaster Pat Hughes - who has come over from 670 The Score every Sunday to take over play-by-play duties.

Now, I assume Hughes will stick in the radio booth with Ron Coomer all year long, with Cohen and Sciambi handling all the play-by-play duties on Marquee. Cohen is incredibly knowledgeable and carries himself well in the booth - and this could be the first step toward his ascension toward becoming a staple in the ears of the next generation of Cubs fans.

Behind the play-by-play folks, Jim Deshaies is back as the primary color commentator and Taylor McGregor is set to return as the field reporter. Cole Wright will continue his studio work for Marquee and the supporting cast of former players should look similar, as well, including names like Joe Girardi, Rick Sutcliffe, Dexter Fowler, Sean Marshall and others.
