Chicago Cubs Hall of Fame Weekend starts on Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field. Hosting the Washington Nationals, the Cubs will honor newly inducted Cubs' Hall of Famer, Sammy Sosa, on Friday, and on Saturday, will turn the attention to first baseman Derrek Lee.

Before Friday's game, the Cubs dropped a Sammy Sosa highlight reel that is certainly going to get Cubs fans ready to run through a wall.

Sammy Sosa gets long-overdue spotlight in emotional Cubs video release

Sosa made his official return to the organization at the Cubs Convention last offseason, marking a reconciliation that many fans had been hopeful for. It was an apology last December that opened the door for Sosa's return, and the Cubs haven't shied away from their franchise icon ever since. Sosa was an honorary coach for the Cubs during spring training and made his first return to Wrigley Field earlier this season.

While some fans remain upset over Sosa's controversial exit from the Cubs following the 2024 season or the steroid accusations, there's no denying the impact he has had on the franchise.

Sosa spent 13 of his 18 seasons in Major League Baseball with the Cubs. Hitting 545 home runs during his time on the North Side, Sosa was the reason fans were flocking to Wrigley Field during a large period of time when the Cubs were irrelevant in terms of contention. Sosa at Wrigley Field was the definition of summer for many fans during their early stages of enjoying baseball.

Lee, for his part, was also a bright spot for Cubs fans during a stretch of time when the team was struggling. Lee's 2005 season remains one of the best offensive seasons any player has had with the Cubs. In 691 plate appearances, Lee slashed .335/.418/.662 with an OPS of 1.080. Adding to the magic was the fact that Lee had 46 home runs and 50 doubles. Despite the Cubs' 79-83 record that season, Lee finished in third place in National League MVP voting.
