Cubs beat reporter floats tidbit that should alleviate the fanbase's biggest fear

Is this the year Jed Hoyer pushes his chips in and adopts a 'win-now' mentality at the deadline?

Ask the average Chicago Cubs fan what their biggest concern is for the current season and unfortunately, the refrain has been consistent over the last few years. Will the front office and ownership do what they must to win it all, if that kind of success is in their grasp?

This offseason, those fears ramped up a bit thanks to the failed pursuit of Alex Bregman that might not have been as serious as first thought. There was also the underwhelming way in which president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer dealt with holes in the bullpen and starting rotation. And of course, anxiety has been high over whether they’ll be able to keep their big acquisition of the offseason, Kyle Tucker, beyond this season.

While the Tucker question is a long way away from being answered, Chicago Cubs beat writer Bruce Levine believes concerns over whether or not the team will go for it this summer are misplaced.

Cubs Rumors: Team could be poised for multiple in-season additions

Making a Thursday morning appearance on 670 The Score, Levine said he believes Hoyer and company are “all in” and it’s just a matter of who and how many acquisitions they’ll make to improve the team and try to get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2020 and the first time in a full season since 2018.

“I think everything's pointing in the right direction,” Levine said. “Injury-wise, obviously, you lose one of your top pitchers. They're out there looking at probably four or five of what they consider to be the best pitchers available… It's not going to be any surprise if they make a move for it.”

Levine went on to say that the real determining factor in who the Cubs get is how many of their youngsters they’re willing to deal, and then compared what Chicago is doing with a game of poker they’re aiming to win.

“They're playing a game of Texas Hold'em, and the Cubs are all in this year, so I expect Hoyer to do everything he can to bring in some top pitching and another, maybe even a third baseman along the way.”

As is always the case, most Chicago Cubs fans are in “show, don’t tell” territory with claims like the beat writer made, but that he’s not cautioning to expect the team to stand pat is promising.
