No one can say Jed Hoyer and the Chicago Cubs turned a blind eye to the organization's biggest need heading into last weekend's 2026 MLB Draft. The front office took 16 pitchers with their 21 selections, a dramatic departure from its approach to the draft in recent years.

You can check out a full rundown of the Cubs' draft picks here. But we're not here to rehash the team's selections. Rather, we're here to shine a light on a trio of college position players Chicago signed as undrafted free agents after the draft wrapped up, starting with Mississippi State first baseman/outfielder Blake Bevis.

Bevis, who transferred from Ball State ahead of his senior season, wasn't an everyday presence for the Bulldogs, but made the most of his opportunities, slashing .346/.465/.603 in 99 plate appearances. He struggled early in the season and put in work with coaches to get his swing back on track, and he came up big down the stretch, but he was never viewed as a major draft prospect.

The 6-4, 230-pound 22-year-old has experience at first and in both corner outfield spots, so it'll be interesting to see where the Cubs deploy him as he gets his first taste of pro ball.

Pivoting off Bevis, the Cubs also picked up Pittsburgh infielder Caden Dulin - a preseason top-50 shortstop, according to D1 Baseball, checking in at #27. In his senior season at Pitt, the Williamstown, NJ native slashed .349/.430/.564. As a junior, he led the team in batting average and multi-hit games, so the hit tool is definitely well-rounded.

Before his two years at Pitt, where he was selected to the All-ACC Academic Baseball Team this year, Dulin won a Division III national championship as a member of the Rowan College South Jersey Roadrunners. He joins

Last, but certainly not least, the Cubs signed Miami (OH) infielder Dom Krupinski, who hit .292 this season, getting on base at a .472 clip with a .514 slugging percentage. He seems to profile as a bat-to-ball guy, given he struck out 48 times while drawing 46 walks in 255 plate appearances.
