Chicago Cubs are no strangers to success against the Dodgers in Los Angeles

Dodger Stadium is one of the toughest ballparks for a visiting team to play in. Not only because the Los Angeles Dodgers are so good, but because of the big stage and atmosphere that comes with the historic ballpark. While the lights are bright on 1000 Vin Scully Avenue, the Chicago Cubs have fared pretty well in Chavez Ravine over the past few years.

On Sunday night, the Cubs clinched a 2/3 series win, handing the Dodgers their first two home losses of the season. This included the historic 16-0 drubbing on Saturday night and a gutsy 4-2 victory in which the pitching was phenomenal. The loss Friday was a close 3-0 game in which Matthew Boyd pitched well, though the way the Dodgers were pitching (the Cubs only had two hits), it felt like a bigger gap. Still, taking 2/3 and outscoring the Dodgers 20-5 in a series in which Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Roki Sasaki, and Tyler Glasnow pitched in is pretty good. Oh, and holding Shohei Ohtani to one hit in three games helps too!

Also, consider the fact that the Cubs are in the middle of a brutal first-month schedule, and they've been in Japan, the West Coast, Chicago, and back to the West Coast again; it's even more impressive they pulled out a series in Los Angeles. There is a long way to go before the Cubs get a break and it will get arguably tougher in San Diego, but every win helps during this stretch.

This series win also marked the third-straight year the Cubs won a series in Los Angeles. Going back to 2023, the Cubs are 6-3 at Dodger Stadium. There have been several close games between the two clubs over the span, and the Cubs have not lost a game by more than three in their last nine games there. Having moments like Pete Crow-Armstrong robbing homers to end the game and going off for 16 runs has been fun to see against such a good team. Even Sunday, when Crow-Armstrong had one of his best days at the plate as an MLB player, will go in the books as a Cubs classic.

The Cubs are done with Dodger Stadium for the 2025 regular season, but if they make the postseason and meet the Dodgers, they could see it again. Postseason is a whole different ballgame, but it would be fun if the Cubs got an opportunity to play games with high stakes in Los Angeles in October.
