At the center of the 2016 World Series-winning team for the Chicago Cubs were Anthony Rizzo and David Ross. Sure, Kris Bryant was the National League MVP, but Rizzo was the unsung captain with Ross serving as the stable veteran presence in the clubhouse. The Cubs celebrated the 10th anniversary of the World Series team at the Cubs Convention earlier this winter, and Rizzo and Ross are taking it a step further.
The beloved former Cubs are launching a new Cubs podcast reflecting on the memories of the 2016 team. "The Lovable Reunion" podcast with The Volume will air its first episode on March 31. Throughout the show, Rizzo and Ross will have conversations with former teammates, including Bryant, Kyle Schwarber, and Jake Arrieta. Former Cubs manager Joe Maddon is also expected to have a conversation with his former players.
Cubs 2016 World Series run getting new life from Anthony Rizzo and David Ross
A new layer of nostalgia was added to the Cubs Convention this year when the 2016 team was reunited and offered some additional insight into that memorable run. Surely, that will be expanded upon with The Lovable Reunion.
In previewing the podcast, Rizzo all but confirmed it will include details that Cubs fans weren't aware of before.
“Winning in 2016 is something I’ll carry with me forever. There’s so much from that season people never really got to see.” said Rizzo. “The Lovable Reunion goes back inside that run. We sit down with the guys and talk through what it really took to get there. Every player had a role. Every moment mattered. Now those stories are finally being told. Working with The Volume lets us bring fans right into that clubhouse and back into everything we experienced.”

When Rizzo retired last summer, he was immediately welcomed back into the Cubs organization and is embracing his role as an ambassador for the team. While not selling short his efforts with the New York Yankees, the fact is that Rizzo belongs being linked to the Cubs in his post-playing days.
As for Ross, he's returning to the media landscape, recently signing a new deal with ESPN. After what happened at the end of his managerial run with the Cubs, it's simply good to see him talking about Chicago again.
“It was the personalities, the chemistry between each guy in the clubhouse, and the belief we had in each other that made that run truly special. The Lovable Reunion brings those relationships back. It gives each guy space to tell his side of the story. You hear about the decisions, the emotions, and the big moments. These are the people who lived it. We’re excited to relive that win with the fans."
The 2016 team is going to live on forever. Regardless of how many World Series are in the future for the likes of Pete Crow-Armstrong, Alex Bregman, and Co., every Cubs fan is going to want to know as much information about that 2016 team as possible. Rizzo and Ross are now making that a possibility with The Lovable Reunion podcast.
