Former Chicago Cubs first baseman - and likely future Cubs Hall of Famer - Anthony Rizzo will appear on Johnny Manziel's Glory Daze Podcast this week and, in that appearance, the 2016 World Series takes center stage.

In a teaser posted on Instagram, we see Rizzo talking about his most memorable moment from Game 7 and the one instance where the Curse of the Billy Goat crossed his mind: when Rajai Davis took Aroldis Chapman, tying the winner-take-all contest in the bottom of the eighth inning.

That moment easily ranks as one of the worst moments I've experienced as a Cubs fan. Nearly nine years later, I still remember the air leaving the room as my wife and brother-in-law watched in horror. Not a word was spoken as an uncomfortable silence surrounded us as we tried to come to terms with what we'd witnessed.

Hearing more from Rizzo on that season, that team - and that unforgettable rain-soaked night in Cleveland - will make this a must-listen for Cubs fans, especially those looking for a distraction from the recent struggles of the 2025 club. Given the hold Rizzo still has on the fanbase, you can guarantee plenty of Wrigleyville faithful will be tuning in to this episode.

Anthony Rizzo talks 2016 World Series and more in new podcast episode

It appears as if Rizzo's MLB career has come to an unceremonious end after he went unsigned last offseason. If that is, indeed, the case, the 2016 World Series champion hangs up his spikes as a three-time All-Star, four-time Gold Glover, a Platinum Glove winner, a Silver Slugger recipient, and a Roberto Clemente Award recipient.

He spent 10 of his 14 years in the big leagues on the North Side, from 2012 to 2021, when he - along with Kris Bryant and Javier Baez - were traded in an emotional multi-day fire sale under new president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer. Rizzo was here for all of it: the teardown of the early 2010s, the ascendence to the top of the baseball world and the eventual collapse at the start of a new decade.

Few who have worn the Cubs uniform have been as beloved as Rizzo - and with him out of the league, any chance to reconnect with the longtime staple will always be welcome.
