The Chicago Cubs have yet to announce the signing of Alex Bregman, but he wasted no time in endearing himself to his new fanbase. Of course, Bregman's signing was first reported while the Chicago Bears were coming back against their hated rival, the Green Bay Packers, and the All-Star third baseman took to Instagram to recognize the moment.
With the 2026 Cubs Convention taking place this weekend, it's not really earth-shattering news that Bregman is physically in Chicago this week. Beyond signing on the dotted line and likely having an introductory press conference, the veteran will be a key presence at this weekend's festivities.
Before then, Bregman was a featured guest of the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night and received a warm welcome to the city of Chicago.

Cubs fans already loving Alex Bregman after early Chicago moment
For fans itching to buy a Bregman jersey, it's worth pointing out he was donning a No. 3 Blackhawks jersey. Bregman wore No. 2 with the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox, a number that likely won't be available with the Cubs unless Nico Hoerner is traded.
Ironically, the reason Bregman wore No. 2 is to serve as a reminder of where he was taken in the 2015 MLB Draft. The player taken ahead of Bregman? His new teammate, Dansby Swanson.
Bregman also joins a recent trend of Cubs signings. Matthew Boyd's grandfather was a lifelong Cubs fan, and the 2025 All-Star touched on the importance of pitching at Wrigley Field at the start of last season. Similarly, Dansby Swanson's late grandfather was a Cubs fan, and the shortstop recounted his childhood when he was introduced by the team in 2023.
As for Bregman, his dad took to social media to congratulate his son while sharing a picture of him when he was younger, wearing none other than a Cubs hat.
I’ve watched Alex work tirelessly, chase his dream, and never forget where he came from. Signing with the Chicago Cubs is a proud dad moment and it’s a reminder that every New Mexico kid deserves the same shot he had.#cubs #mlb #chicagocubs #nmpol #nm pic.twitter.com/5ORWhJXvY1

Above all else, Bregman's early days as a member of the Cubs' organization speak to the importance of Jed Hoyer and Co. including a no-trade clause in his deal. The 31-year-old was in search of long-term security, and when the Boston Red Sox refused to budge, it seemed to be an easy choice for him to arrive in Chicago for the next five years.
