The Milwaukee Brewers may have ended the Los Angeles Dodgers' dynasty, and it's safe to say the Dodgers will have some form of a reset this offseason. With a bloated payroll and the potential of the new CBA enabling a salary cap, it's possible LA looks to shed some money this offseason, and the Chicago Cubs could help their efforts.
One thing should be made clear, the Dodgers' run of excellence shouldn't be viewed as being over. If Shohei Ohtani is healthy, and considering the other stars they have on their roster, they could very well be back in the World Series next year.

But, in some fashion, change is on the horizon for the Dodgers. The Cubs and Dodgers have been fairly common trade partners in recent years, and given the creativity this offseason will likely entail, the two teams might be able to connect on a deal before things come to a halt in December.
Teoscar Hernandez
Over the past year, it's seemed like Teoscar Hernandez was inching closer to being a trade candidate. The Dodgers have a handful of top outfield prospects, and Hernandez is set to earn over $22 million in 2027. Josue De Paula's arrival at the end of this past season likely will accelerate the Dodgers' efforts to move Hernandez. Injuries limited him to 125 games last year, but he hit 16 home runs with a wRC+ of 110. He also has a $15 club option for 2028, but the Cubs may not be in need to pick it up, considering both Josiah Hartshorn and Kane Kepley will be ready by then.
Alex Call
For the same reasons the Dodgers could deal Hernandez, it would be fair to suggest they would rather deal Alex Call. Call was left off LA's playoff roster, and that could be telling of the lack of future he has with the Dodgers. As a right-handed hitter, he wouldn't be a direct platoon partner with Matt Shaw and Pedro Ramirez, but he would be a veteran insurance for bench if nothing else.
Emmet Sheehan
There's a couple ifs at play here. If Tarik Skubal is back with the Dodgers next year, and if Ohtani is healthy and pitching full-time, perhaps the Dodgers look to trade Emmet Sheehan. He's under control through the 2029 season, so it wouldn't be an easy trade for the Cubs, but it's the type outside-the-box thinking that led to the team getting Michael Busch before the 2024 season.
Hyeseong Kim
The Cubs were briefly connected to Hyeseong Kim before he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2025, but it hasn't seemed like the Dodgers were eager to give Kim a chance. He played in 71 games in 2025, and just 46 games in 2026. It would seem that Kim is going to be a trade candidate, and he offers the type of versatility the Cubs love have on their roster. As a left-handed hitter, Kim would also be an ideal platoon mate with Shaw and Ramirez.
