If the Chicago Cubs are going to find success in the postseason, it stands to reason that it would be due to the likes of Kyle Tucker, Pete Crow-Armstrong, and Seiya Suzuki finding the success they had during the first half of the season.

Having said that, each offseason, it seems that it is often the unsung hero that carries a team in October. That is something the Cubs may need to keep in mind as they prepare to construct their postseason roster.

Potential secret weapons Cubs can't afford to leave off postseason roster

There aren't your household names, or names that you would have circled at the start of the season, but they could have a hidden impact for the Cubs.

Moises Ballesteros, C/DH

When the Cubs signed Carlos Santana, it seemed that it marked a competition between him and Justin Turner for who should have a spot on the Cubs' bench in the postseason. Santana's offense has been brutal with the Cubs, and there remains a case that Moises Ballesteros is a better option than the aging first baseman. Especially for a Cubs' offense that has struggled to find the big hit in key moments.

Michael Soroka, RHP

The Cubs' decision to trade for Michael Soroka is one of the more polarizing moves that was made this season. The Cubs had a clear need for a starting pitcher, and Soroka was the name they had circled. A shoulder injury has derailed most of his run with the Cubs, but touching mid-to-upper 90s in his rehab assignment, Soroka could be a strong option out of the bullpen for the Cubs in the playoffs.

Porter Hodge, RHP

Since returning to the Cubs' Major League pitching staff at the end of August, Porter Hodge has flashed signs of the dominance that led to many fans wanting him to open the season as the team's closer. If that version of Hodge is back, the Cubs can't afford to keep him off the team's postseason roster.
