The Chicago Cubs will need to set their roster for the National League Wild Card series on Tuesday morning, and there is a reminder that the team isn't subject to the same roster rules that they must follow during the regular season. After having expanded rosters in September, the roster size is back down to 26, but the team doesn't have to carry the same number of pitchers and position players.

Given the shortened three-game series in the Wild Card round, it often leads to a team carrying more position players than pitchers. In other words, it wouldn't be out of the question for the Cubs to have 14 position players on their roster for the series against the Padres, and only 12 pitchers.

Nonetheless, there are some players who could sneak onto the Cubs' roster this week.

Miguel Amaya, C

Miguel Amaya ended the regular season on a minor-league rehab assignment with the Iowa Cubs after suffering a freak ankle injury in the middle of August. With Carson Kelly cooling in recent weeks, Amaya could be a surprise addition to the Cubs' playoff roster. Amaya is expected to work out at Wrigley Field on Monday before the Cubs decide on Tuesday morning.

Billy Hamilton, OF

There was some surprise that Billy Hamilton did not find his way to Wrigley Field for the final weekend of the regular season, but the speedy veteran remains eligible for the Cubs' playoff roster. Hamilton's spot on the Cubs' playoff roster once felt like a no-brainer, but that may no longer be the case. Still, with his speed and the Cubs likely rostering extra position players, Hamilton could easily slide onto the roster.

Owen Caissie, OF

Owen Caissie has been in concussion protocol since the middle of September, but was with the team at Wrigley Field this past weekend. With Kyle Tucker's calf in question, the Cubs could add Caissie to the roster as a way to give them added insurance in the outfield.
