3 Cubs poised for breakout performances in 2022: #2 – Clint Frazier
We always talk about change-of-scenery candidates heading into a season – but I can’t recall one in recent memory who stands to benefit as much as Clint Frazier.
After years of battling through injuries and lingering concussion symptoms in New York and never really finding his footing, Frazier looked great in Cactus League action this spring, getting on base at a .371 clip and showcasing impressive bat speed. Now, as is the case with Madrigal, it’s about proving he can stay healthy over the course of a full season.
Hopefully, the DH role will allow David Ross to keep Frazier fresh, rotating him in and out based on matchups in the outfield. Projections aren’t particularly high on the former first-round pick, but he looked good this spring and has raved about what coming to Chicago has done for him mentally.
If Frazier can put it all together in 2022, he could play a significant role on this club for years to come. He’s got multiple years of team control remaining and in a very shaky outfield picture (especially in the short-term), the opportunity is there for the taking.
