3 Chicago Cubs who could be traded before the deadline: #2: Wade Miley

When the Cubs pulled a fast one on the Cincinnati Reds and picked up Wade Miley off waivers, the rotation got a major boost from someone who’s quietly been one of the steadier veterans in the league in recent years.

Since the start of the 2018 season, Miley has racked up more than 425 innings, working to a 3.53 ERA split between Houston, Milwaukee and Cincinnati. Now, in the final year of his contract, he comes to Chicago – looking to help stabilize a starting staff that ranked near the bottom of the league in almost every meaningful measure last season.

Although the additions of Miley and Stroman should definitely help, there are still plenty of ways the 2022 season could go wrong for the Cubs. If the team finds itself out of contention by July and Miley is pitching well, you can almost guarantee Hoyer starts shopping Miley.

There are always contenders in need of rotation depth, there’s no long-term risk for a team acquiring him given he’s in his final year of control and he has postseason experience, to boot. If the Cubs are on the outside looking in, expect a Miley trade and those innings to go to one of the young arms down the stretch.
