3 Cubs that deserve a shot at becoming closer: #2: Rowan Wick

Rowan Wick recently has been activated off the 60-day IL due to an oblique strain that saw him go down in the beginning of April. Since being activated on July 17, he pitched three scoreless innings in a trio of appearances with the South Bend Cubs during the beginning of his rehab stint. He then made his way to Iowa where he appeared in five games. In his first appearance for Triple-A, he allowed five runs, but followed that up with 4 scoreless appearances thereafter.

The Cubs activated Wick on the major league roster back on August 10 where he has shined in his role, owning a 0.00 ERA in four appearances thus far. Including Triple-A, he hasn’t allowed a run in nine straight appearances. He currently has a FIP of only 3.17 to go along with a 20 percent strikeout rate. For his major league career his ERA sits at just 3.02

Wick has been fantastic since coming back from injury. The more experience he gets, the more likely it will be that he moves further back into the bullpen where he can hopefully find a closing job or at least an eighth-inning setup role. I look forward to see what Wick can continue bringing to the table in 2021.
