With each passing day, the Chicago Cubs starting lineup looks further and further removed than it did a mere 10 days ago. At this point in the season, after just getting swept by the Chicago White Sox and dropping both ends of Tuesday’s doubleheader to Milwaukee, I’m all for getting to know the younger faces and see what the new guys can bring to the table moving forward. It’s pretty much the only thing Cubs fans have to salvage what’s other wise turned into a dreadful season.
Luckily, a glimmer of hope exists for the fans who choose to try and find the positives here. For one, with recent understandings that the front office hasn’t been fully honest with the fanbase, it’s understandable to lack faith when it comes to Jed Hoyer and his crew. The Cubs president has stated big money spending will be back soon enough but at this point everything tends to come off as one big “I’ve heard that one before.”
That’s where we can look to what we already have. There is an abundance of talent currently being sculpted in the minor league system, especially with the recent prospects acquired via trade before the deadline back on July 30. Though some prospects are closer to big league action than others, we can get to know four of them who appear the most ready to be given a chance to make an impact on the big league roster. Some as soon as next year, some maybe even this summer.
