Chicago Cubs: Another catcher in the wings

Outside of Hernandez, there are still some very talented profiles who will be part of this year’s class. The Cubs happen to be in on yet another backstop reportedly, and that is Venezuelan catcher Moises Ballesteros.

Ballesteros has shown an impressive pop ability off the plate, hitting 1.9 seconds in a showcase. Just 15 years old, Ballesteros is already showing why he is going to be one of, if not the top catcher in the class.

His stocky build lends way to a healthy approach from the left side of the plate, and the ball jumps off his bat. After the Cubs already inked the top catching prospect from last year’s class in Ronnier Quintero last summer, adding Ballesteros to the mix would only continue to show how strong the organization’s ability is to scout catchers.

It is frustrating for Cubs fans right now with the direction of the team. However, not all hope is lost. If they can be serious players this summer in the international market and ink these two kids to future contracts, it will continue to show the dedication of their scouting department and the future of this club.
