Chicago Cubs: A rocky beginning from Ryan

In his first major league action since 2017, Ryan made his season debut in an April game against the Milwaukee Brewers. It was a game the Cubs would eventually win 14-8, thanks in part to the offense and a solid start by emboldened veteran Cole Hamels. However, Ryan’s appearance did not go as planned.

Entering the game with a comfortable lead, Ryan proceeded to give up four hits, a walk and two earned runs in just two-thirds of an inning of work. It was an unfortunate start to his season following the team’s decision to turn to him. However, it did allow him to work off of something.

The Cubs bullpen at that point was already starting to show signs of disarray as many games before that fans experienced a multitude of earned runs and blown saves. Thankfully, Ryan would build off of that in a big way – and the results have been fantastic.
