Cubs Rumors: Where would Peralta fit on this club?
The Cubs currently have a pair of left-handed hitting corner outfielders between Schwarber and right fielder Jason Heyward. Peralta is also a left-handed hitter which poses the question of where he would fit if the club were so inclined to make a move.
Since breaking into the majors, Peralta has turned in a stable career up to this point. He has a career .292/.347/.481 slash line through his first six seasons at the big league level and has always been an integral part to the Diamondbacks lineup.
This season, Peralta is slashing a very lovely .289/.352/.476 with nine home runs and 44 RBI through the first half. Last season, he experienced a career year in which he slashed .293/.352/.516 with 30 home runs. He posted a .368 wOBA and 130 wRC+ while driving it a career-high 78 runs.
Peralta is 31 years old, which poses the question of health. He suffered a season-ending wrist injury in 2016 and has yet to play a complete season at the major league level. This season, he’s dealt with a pair of shoulder issues, as well. Logically, there is not much sense for Chicago to pursue Peralta, so why now are the rumors circulating?
