Chicago Cubs: A look into the future backstop?
Amaya is firmly into his fourth professional season since joining the organization back in 2015 as part of the clubs international class. After navigating a successful first year back in 2015, Amaya has continued to grow into an above-average player at such a young age.

- Cubs: P.J. Higgins deserves to be in the lineup on a daily basis
Beginning the season at Class-A Advanced Myrtle Beach, Amaya has slashed .221/.341/.373 with seven big flies and 34 RBI in 63 games. While the batting average is undoubtedly nowhere as strong as both Amaya and fans wish to see, he has still managed to post a .341 wOBA and 110 wRC+, both positive signs for his progression.
In terms of his catching, Amaya could and should continue to improve on that ability. The caught-stealing numbers are one of the best in minor league baseball, and he should only continue to grow in this regard moving forward.
As a 20-year-old the progression is impressive and given the time he could become a real superstar for the Cubs. It will be the second year in a row Amaya represents the club in the futures game. Last year playing for the World Futures, Amaya went 0-3.
