The Chicago Cubs continue to struggle away from Wrigley Field as they fall 10-3 to the Colorado Rockies in Denver.
This was one of those games that you try to forget the moment that it ends. It’s one of those games that you try to move on and try to go get them tomorrow. Not much good happened at all for the Chicago Cubs in Denver on Tuesday night as they lost big.
The Cubs have not played well away from the Friendly Confines this year. After tonight’s loss, they fell to 13-18 on the road. This is something that Joe Maddon’s ballclub will need to figure out how to deal with if they want to carry out their goals for this year.
The Cubs were facing Jack Lambert, the rookie that had just made his MLB debut at Wrigley Field just last week. In that game last week Lambert went seven innings, struck out nine, and only allowed one run. Tonight Lambert made his Coors Field doubt, and he was excellent once again against the Cubs. Going five innings striking out three and again only allowing one run in a very hitter’s friendly ballpark.
Lambert seems to be a guy that might have the Cubs number. Another guy that we all know has the Cubs number, Daniel Murphy. He kicked off the scoring in the first with a two-run double off of Cubs starter Jose Quintana. Murphy, as we all know, absolutely kills Cubs pitching just tonight he was 3-for-4. In his career against the Chicago Cubs including the playoffs Murphy is hitting .345, which are just crazy numbers to have against a single team.
Brad Brach continued to struggle out of the pen. When Brach came in the Cubs were still in the game only trailing 3-1. Then it seemed like the wheels fell off as Brach only got two outs and gave up four earned runs. After that, the game was busted open, and Joe Maddon went to Tyler Chatwood to eat some innings. Chatwood ended up giving up a three-run homer to Charlie Blackman.
Probably the only bright spot tonight was Jason Heyward who was 2-for-3 with a homer before being pulled from the game once the game was out of hand.
The Cubs try to avoid the sweep on Wednesday in Colorado as the left-hander Cole Hamels (5-2, 3.24 ERA) faces Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela (5-4, 4.95 ERA).
