Cole Roederer – OF, South Bend Cubs

Currently coming in as the teams number five overall prospect, Cole Roederer is a compelling case. Roederer is only 19 years old, which provides a ton of time for growth within the system. He was selected in round two of last seasons Amateur Draft with a compensatory pick.

In his first year at Rookie ball, Roederer slashed a respectable .275/.354/.465 with five home runs and 24 RBI as well as 13 stolen bases. He posted a 129 wRC+. This year Roederer has struggled out of the gate yet Cubs fans should not fret. At South Bend through 33 games, Roederer is slashing .210/.284/.323 with a home run and 17 RBI.

Growing pains are part of the process, and for a guy who came fresh out of high school last year, Roederer is handling things pretty well. He is expected to arrive in the Show in 2022 which should give him some excellent opportunity to make waves in the system. A team can never have enough options with their outfield and given where the team selected him, Roederer is hopefully well on his way to making a future impact.
