Chicago Cubs: Offense continues to roll

The offense continued it’s strong showing, scoring six runs or more for the last four games. They used the long ball in last night’s contest, as Willson Contreras, Anthony Rizzo, and Javier Baez all went deep. One of the best things I’ve seen about the offense this year is that while they’re hitting home runs, they aren’t counting on them.

The team has taken their walks. They’ve stolen bases and used the hit and run more often than I can remember. And when they need a fly ball to score a run? They get it. These are some of the spots that they lacked in last year. I guess what I’m trying to say is that the Cubs are playing great all-around ball in the previous few weeks. A far cry from that first week and a half which we have removed from our memory. But alas, you can’t strike it from the standings. So we’ll deal with it.

Jason Heyward has stayed hot, and Contreras is still hitting the ball well. Rizzo is coming along, as well as Kyle Schwarber. Daniel Descalso has cooled a bit, but he was overachieving. He’s still a solid bat but has regressed to the norm a bit.

But this is how baseball should work. Some players will start to slump, and others will rise to the occasion to fill the gaps. The Cubs are doing that about as well as anyone right now.
