Chicago Cubs: Working toward the future
It remains to be seen the role Thompson will have in the future as he moves through the system. Only 22 years old, Thompson has time to make his spot as a starter or maybe work towards becoming a dominant reliever and one day taking over as the major league clubs closer. You never know what is on the horizon.
Last season, Thompson made eight starts over 25 1/3 innings. The most innings he threw over the course of that time was five, and most of the starts lasted between two and three innings apiece so it could go either way as he develops.
That said, despite not finding himself in the teams’ top 30 prospect list, it could be soon before that changes, and he works his way into a spot in the coveted group. From what fans have seen from Thompson since becoming a cub is impressive, nonetheless. Let’s hope it keeps happening as we sit back and enjoy the ride.
