Chicago Cubs: Next man up?

As we touched on earlier, Anthony Rizzo is far from finishing his career so Cubs fans need not worry about the team’s transition away from the captain. He even made public comments recently indicating he’d be open to finishing his career on the North Side. However, it is still important to forecast the talent waiting in the wings for their respective shot, such as the case with Young.

As the club does not have a better option than Young at this point, he profiles as the closest to the next man up in the next wave of talent working their way to the Show. The Cubs do not pick until 27th overall selection in this year’s Amateur Draft, and there are a few names who stand out as potential selections.

Nevertheless, it is far from a reality which means for now Young is the man who fans should be eyeing as we move into the new season. When the end of the Rizzo era does arrive, hopefully much later down the line, wouldn’t it be nice to have the next big star waiting in the wings?
