The Chicago Cubs are set for the foreseeable future at first base with All-Star and captain Anthony Rizzo. That being said, the future looms on the horizon.

Before delving too deep into this discussion on a seemingly hot topic, let’s make something clear. I am unequivocally absolutely not suggesting the Chicago Cubs make plans to move on from Anthony Rizzo. Since back in 2013, three-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glover has proven to be a significant asset for Chicago. On countless occasions, the big lefty has come through in the clutch and was one of the main catalysts to the club’s 2016 World Series title-winning season.

As Rizzo is not due to become a free agent until the beginning of the 2022 season, by then, he will be 32 years old, and the team may be on the lookout for his prospective replacement. The Cubs do not boast the most impressive farm system at this point. However, some individual players fly under the radar and may leave their mark on the big league club sooner than you might think.

One such player is Jared Young. A 23-year-old first and second baseman, Chicago selected the left-handed swinger in the 15th round of the 2017 Amateur Draft out of Old Dominion University. Since making his debut at Low-A Eugene, Young has managed to work his way up to High-A in a short amount of time and should continue progressing positively.
