Unbelievable talent
Vaughn turned into an unbelievable talent for the Cubs. Spending nine total seasons pitching on the Northside, Vaughn made the city of Chicago his home. His decline at the end of his career came swiftly, and following some off the field issues with both his teammates and family, Vaughn moved away from baseball for good.

Concerning the talent level in franchise history, Vaughn remains the best left-handed pitcher the Cubs have ever seen. Unfortunately, his career did not span the length of some of the other greats such as Warren Spahn, Sandy Koufax, and Carl Hubbell and Vaughn never received a single vote for Cooperstown. He remains one of the best of all time to have never gotten the call.
