Chicago Cubs: Remember this name in the coming seasons
Zack Short is an interesting prospect in the Cubs farm system. Short is an infield utility man who has logged innings at third base, second base and shortstop. Last season with the Tennessee Smokies he slashed .227/.356/.417 with 17 home runs and a 15.6 percent walk rate in 124 games. He is a career .242/.380/.406 hitter in 308 MiLB games.
Do not let the batting average be a full indicator of his abilities. Short gets on base and has some solid power. He did strikeout a lot last season (K-rate of 26 percent) but was still productive. He will be an interesting guy to keep an eye on as he begins spring training with the big league club.
Right now Fangraphs projects him to make his MLB debut in 2019. Even if he does it would most certainly not be on the opening day roster, but maybe a September call-up. Regardless he is considered to be a guy who has a chance to be part of the big league club in the future in some form.
