Chicago Cubs: Was Bleacher Report fair; Cubs try to redeem themselves

 The Chicago Cubs got a less than stellar grade for their offseason moves by Bleacher Report. They’ve redeemed themselves a bit with the Brad Brach signing, but will it be enough?

We posted the Bleacher Report report cards for offseason signings before the Chicago Cubs went out and signed Brad Brach. Prior to his signing, BR had them at a D-. Was that grade fair, or was it too generous? At that time, the only name of note that the Cubs had signed was Daniel Descalso. Most of the other names you’d have to look them up to know who they were.

As if the Cubs had seen the grades, they followed by signing the former All-Star, Brad Brach. Brach had been on the Cubs radar last season before he was eventually traded to the Braves. After much talk of the Cubs adding a “big name” in the bullpen, the Cubs went with guys like Jessie Chavez and Brandon Kintzler. Now, this addition really marks only the second noteworthy addition to go along with Descalso. So would this have improved the Cubs D- grade from BR?

Since we seem to have a bullpen theme today, our Tim Stebbins takes a look at why the Cubs should consider Adbert Alzoay for the Opening Day roster out of the bullpen. The Cubs finally have some homegrown pitching working its way through, and since the signings have been few this winter, why not give Alzolay a chance? Budget friendly, gains experience out of the bullpen, with hopes of taking over for one of the veterans whose contracts will be coming to an end soon.
