What is there to do in St. Louis anyhow?

I went to the zoo in St. Louis when I was a kid.  I also went to Purina Farms.  We had a great time! There’s Grant’s Farm and the Anheuser Busch Brewery Tour.  Then there’s always the Gateway Arch. I honestly don’t know what else there is to do in St. Louis besides go to Busch Stadium because I haven’t been there since the early 1990s. I couldn’t tell you about the nightlife or what there is for fans and players coming in for a series.  However, according to both Dempster and Bryant, it’s not the most exciting place in the world.  It’s definitely not the cultural, historical, social, or even sporting destination that Chicago is.

In addition to the lack of appealing attractions in the city, not all players seem to enjoy the Cardinals’ way or how the team has been run in recent history.  Judging by the Sports Illustrated story on Tommy Pham from last season, it doesn’t seem like he’s a big fan and will be clamoring for a return to the Gateway City any time soon.

Regardless of how anyone feels about the city of St. Louis, or whether players actually want to go there in free agency, it seems to me this a case of a player issuing an off the cuff, all-in-good-fun statement that most baseball fans and players would agree with or, at worst, treat with indifference.  And, somehow, Molina, Ozuna, and Brebbia somehow all took offense to the most innocuous of comments because they just happen to play baseball in the city of St. Louis.

Hopefully, winter will be over soon, so dramatic inanity like this won’t clog headlines and we can see what happens on the field between KB and the Redbirds.
