The Chicago Cubs locked up their 5th straight win yesterday with a victory over the Colorado Rockies.

It’s May 1, and the Chicago Cubs are in sole possession of first-place. After the Pittsburgh Pirates loss, the Cubs took a turn at the top of the leaderboard. Jon Lester fell one out short of a complete start, turning it over to Luke Farrell who would get the win. Kris Bryant got his first hit since returning from his injury and scored on an Anthony Rizzo ground out to score Bryant. The Cubs suffered a bit, as Javier Baez booted two ground balls and Bryant booted one, as well. But the Cubs stayed with it with some big pitching.

This season, “Bryzzo” isn’t picking up the slack that the needed to. But have no fear, ‘Balmorez’ is here. Baez and Albert Almora have been picking up the slack, and have helped lead the Cubs to several wins. While the duo has cooled off a bit, there’s no doubt that Baez and Almora will help lead the Cubs to their fair share of wins.

When looking at the Jose Quintana deal, the Cubs gave up some spectacular talent. Dylan Cease and Eloy Jimenez should be solid major leaguers for years to come. But while the roster didn’t have a place for them, the did have a need for Quintana. So they pulled the trigger, and things have been going right ever since. There’s a chance that Jimenez and Cease will be solid players. But there’s also a chance that so will Quintana.
