The Chicago Cubs and Javier Baez stayed hot on Wednesday as they beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 13-5. It was the second straight game that Baez went deep twice, giving him four in two days.

Chicago Cubs color man Jim Deshaies said that he heard from an executive in baseball that if Javier Baez learned to lay off the away pitch–he could be an MVP candidate. He might not be to that point yet, but it’s a good start. Baez went deep twice for the second straight game as the Cubs rolled to a 13-5 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Baez–as well as several other Cubs–had good days at the plate in the offensive output. Whatever the case is, the Cubs need to keep this rolling as they close out the series today.

Following his two home run game the night before, Baez announced that he and his girlfriend Irmarie Marquez were getting married. The two already have a baby on the way, and Baez just announced it on social media yesterday. He had asked her after the Miami trip but kept it to themselves until now. Now he’s added four home runs in two days? Good show, El Mago.

When the Cubs won the World Series in 2016, it may have created some unreal expectations. That year, the Cubs got off to a hot-start and never looked back. Well, until they were down 3-1 in the WS, but that’s history–literally. Now, if the Cubs don’t get off to a good start? Rubbish. Trade them all. Maybe not literally, but you get the idea. It’s a long season, much longer than 11 games. Give it some time, folks. They’ll be alright.
