The Chicago Cubs’ Jon Lester pitched six shutout innings as the Cubs got back in the scoring–and win column–with an 8-0 victory.
Baseball is a funny game. The Chicago Cubs couldn’t get a hit to save their life and were shutout in two straight games. Jon Lester was atrocious in his first time out ad some people started to question what he had left in the tank. And then the Cubs toss an 8-0 shutout, and everything seems back to normal. Well, as normal as they can get. Javier Baez reached all five times including the go-ahead RBI as the Cubs beat the rival Brewers on Thursday night.
The Brewers and the Cubs have a budding rivalry that you can’t make happen. Within a few years, the Brewers have ascended up the ranks, and believe they should be at the top of the Central. And, of course, so do the Cubs. So what makes these two such intense rivals? Well, it could be the short drive up I-94 that makes it so appealing. Or maybe that the Brewers only wanted to sell tickets to those in-state to keep out Cubs’ fans? Either way, it’s getting to be an interesting duel when they get together.
The Cubs’ Anthony Rizzo has been a superb hitter against the Brewers, which is why the Cubs expect him to get it going this series. Last nights 0-for-5 was disappointing, especially when he’s hit Brewers pitching at Miller Park quite well. Will tonight be the chance for Rizzo to break out of his funk and get going?
