The former perennial ace of the Chicago Cubs has found a new home with the Philadelphia Phillies. Now, Jake Arrieta will do his best to help push them to new heights.

For the better part of the offseason, the market for free agent starting pitchers had been non-existent. When news broke of the Chicago Cubs’ agreement with Yu Darvish, it was believed to be the beginning of a domino effect. It naturally did not happen.

Fast forward a month, and the chips seem to be falling throughout the league, as starting pitchers are finally coming to terms with teams.

Today, news broke that former Cubs ace Jake Arrieta reached an agreement with the Philadelphia Phillies. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the deal is for three-years and $75 million. Many people will believe this to be quite a massive contract at $25 million per season; however, with the pitching market seemingly dried up, it’s a contract that makes sense.

Moving forward, where does that now put the Phillies and what can fans expect from Arrieta in 2018?
