With the wind blowing out again, you would have expected the Chicago Cubs to put up more runs. But it was once again the long ball that supplied all three runs. But this time it was enough as the Cubs survived to play another day.
For the Chicago Cubs‘ Javier Baez, it had to be everything he had hoped for. After starting the playoffs without a hit, Joe Maddon put some faith in him and put him in the lineup for Game 4. Baez repaid him by hitting two solo home runs as the Cubs held on to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 and push the series to a Game 5. Willson Contreras also hit a towering solo shot for the Cubs, but that was once again the only way the Cubs could score.
But however they come, we’ll take them. Wade Davis had to survive a two-inning save, which included another home run from Justin Turner. It was only a solo home run, and Davis gutted his way through the final two innings for the save. The Cubs will play their final game at Wrigley Field tonight as Jose Quintana faces Clayton Kershaw.
While the Cubs held on to win, Joe Maddon had to watch it from the clubhouse. After a strikeout by Curtis Granderson, Dave Roberts and Granderson argued it was a foul tip. The play cannot be reviewed, but the umpires got together—and overturned the call. Maddon went ballistic and was eventually tossed from the game. Granderson struck out on the next pitch, but Maddon said he would have ‘come out of the clubhouse in his jockstrap’ if Granderson had hit a home run.
