The Chicago Cubs shifter the rotation ahead of the Rays series, moving Mike Montgomery back in and sliding Jon Lester back a day. And could Lance Lynn be a free-agent target this offseason for the Cubs?
He’s in; then he’s out. For the Chicago Cubs‘ Mike Montgomery, it’s all in a day’s work. Monty is back into the Cubs rotation as Jon Lester was slid back to Wednesday. Jen-Ho Tseng struggled in his outing, so Joe Maddon moved Montgomery back into it. The move of Lester to Wednesday will also help the Cubs set up a rotation of right-handers against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Cubs will play the Rays for two games before heading over to Milwaukee for an important four-game series.
The Cubs need to consider that they’ll need to replace Jake Arrieta and John Lackey. The Cubs front office has been on the lookout from the start and one name that might work in Cardinals’ starter, Lance Lynn. Lynn underwent Tommy John surgery in 2016 and appeared to be at full strength as the season winds down. Could the Cubs and Theo Epstein make a play for Lynn this offseason?
