There are no breaks for the Chicago Cubs as of late. Injuries are slowly picking away at this team, and have claimed it latest victim.

The Chicago CubsJon Lester had another awful start yesterday, leaving the game before the second inning ended. The Reds put up a nine spot, but the wind was blowing out. And you’re never out of a game when that’s the case. The Cubs rallied to tie it at 9-9, but they could only hold the Reds there for so long. Phillip Ervin hit the deciding blow–a two-run home run–and eventually, the Reds would go on to win, 13-10.

The concern for the Cubs now is Lester. He waved out the trainer in the second, and some thought he was simply “calling off the dogs” on a day that he didn’t have it. That would have been better. Lester experienced some lat tightness and will undergo an MRI to see how severe it is. But he’s expected to miss a majority of what’s left in the regular season either way. Not what the Cubs were hoping to hear.

After signing Lester to the mega-contract, his first year was a little rough. Some thought they wasted the money on him. But since then, he’s earned every dollar as he’s become the ace of this staff. Which is why his injury becomes even more detrimental to the team. The rotation has been an issue most of the year but had finally seemed to have settled in. This isn’t going to help it any.
