The Chicago Cubs lost once again to the Giants, but that’s not the loss that hurt them the most. Willson Contreras appeared to injure his hamstring trying to beat out a throw to first and could hit the DL.
The Chicago Cubs dropped two of three to the San Francisco Giants, as the offense wasn’t able to get it going in the final game of the series. Kyle Hendricks had a short outing, lasting only 4 2/3 innings, but it was a solid start. Unfortunately for Hendricks, the only support he got was a solo home run from Albert Almora in the third inning as the Cubs fell to the Giants, 3-1.
The loss to the Giants was tough enough to take as they’re a struggling team. But losing Willson Contreras made things even worse. Contreras appeared to injure his hamstring running out a ground ball to first. He’ll get an MRI on Thursday to find out the extent of the injury, but Joe Maddon expects him to go on the DL for at least 10 days.
The better that Jake Arrieta pitches down the stretch for the Cubs, the more unlikely it becomes that he could re-sign with them. The Cubs could make him a QO, which would be around $18 million, to buy some time. But as Arrieta continues to have a resurgence, the chances of that happening are minimized with each quality start he puts out.
