The Chicago Cubs made one more big trade before the deadline came, getting Justin Wilson and Alex Avila for Jeiner Candelario and Isaac Paredes. The Cubs now hope these will be what they need to make a run at another World Series.

With all the rumors they Chicago Cubs were involved in over the past few weeks, there wasn’t much to talk about in the end. But the Cubs did add Jose Quintana before the deadline, and then brought in Justin Wilson and Alex Avila–one of the names linked to the Cubs–to fill in the holes of this roster. It cost them they’re top prospect–twice–but the Cubs believe it’s what they needed to do to make a run at another title.

Fourteen years after that October day, Steve Bartman can finally find some peace. The Cubs presented Steve Bartman with a 2016 World Series ring. It was a way of saying thank you to a man that has endured so much, and for sticking with the Cubs–even when fellow fans didn’t do the same. There were plenty of people who thought they should get a ring. Bartman has paid his dues. He deserves it.

In Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer’s time in Chicago, they’ve made some pretty good moves at the deadline. Some were as sellers, working “the plan.” Other have been to give the Cubs a chance to win (Aroldis Chapman), and worked out for the best–regardless of the cost. So we look back at the trades they’ve made and how they look now.
