The Chicago Cubs got a brilliant effort from Jake Arrieta as the offense came to play. The Cubs scored four times in the fifth inning, and Arrieta took control from there as they beat the White Sox for the second straight day.

The Chicago Cubs got another quality start from Jake Arrieta against the White Sox, and the offense kept adding on as the Cubs won on the Southside, 8-3. Anthony Rizzo had a base clearing double in the fifth, while Arrieta only had a few minor slip ups in the victory. The Cubs starters are now 9-0 in the second half, and the Cubs are 10-2 while seizing sole possession of first place.

The Cubs activated Brett Anderson from the 60-day DL and then designated him for assignment. One of the keys to his success was staying healthy, and once again, he couldn’t do it. The Cubs will try to make a deal with a team who might be interested in him, but this could be one of those deals that the Cubs need to simply release him and walk away from.

The Cubs are prodding the market for a possible veteran catcher down the stretch, and there are a couple of them that come to mind. The Cubs have spoken to the Mets about Rene Rivera as a potential pickup. And one name that hasn’t gotten much talk in the media is A.J. Ellis. Could one of these two be the guy the Cubs turn to down the stretch?
