1,000 career hits for Miguel Montero

Even in a limited role, Montero is proving to be valuable. The 33-year-old is slashing .314/.355/.471 and is still a solid option behind the plate. But did you know he’s closing in on an impressive feat.

Montero is 45 hits away from 1,000, which would make him only the seventh active catcher with 1,000 or more. When you consider the longevity of catchers it makes the milestone all the more remarkable.

ETA: With 22 hits so far at around the one-third mark of the season in a limited role, it’ll be tough to reach it by the end of this season. Next season for sure though. Of course, whether or not he does it in a Cubs uniform remains to be seen.

Looking ahead: 600 RBI is within reach next season if he gets regular playing time, which would make him the seventh active catcher to reach that milestone, as well.
