Chicago Cubs News: Lester twirls gem; Ross dances into our hearts
The Chicago Cubs’ Jon Lester pitched a complete game gem as they beat the San Francisco Giants 4-1. Later in the evening, Lester’s former batterymate David Ross took the runner-up finish on the Dancing with the Stars finale.
There’s just something the Chicago Cubs‘ Jon Lester loves about pitching at Wrigley Field. Lester tossed a complete game, allowing just one run on four hits. Lester struck out 10 as he finished the game off with under 100 pitches. Kyle Schwarber unloaded on a Johnny Cueto pitch, sending it out onto Sheffield in the first inning. Jason Heyward followed with a solo of his own in the second inning, and Anthony Rizzo capped off the night with a two-run shot in the fourth.
When this season of Dancing with the Stars began, David Ross didn’t have great odds. But the chances the backup catcher would homer off of Andrew Miller in the Game 7 of the World Series probably weren’t real high either. Ross took home the runner-up, making every single Cubs’ fan that took part in his journey quite proud. Way to go, Grandpa Rossy!
The Cubs look to be having fun again and playing better baseball at the same time. But as they move forward, it clear they may need to make an upgrade in the rotation before this season is over. So who are some of the guys out there that could help the Cubs and be a realistic target?
