Four Chicago Cubs claim spots in Major League Baseball’s list of Top 20 jersey sales. All four players were ranked in the top five spots.
The Chicago Cubs are the talk of Major League Baseball. A fantastic 2016 season, finished with an incredible World Series win in seven games, helped. Having great young players and a strong pitching staff make great reasons for arguing if they are the league’s best team.
And when you end the longest champions drought in sports history, you tend to celebrate for a long time. For the team and fans – especially the fans – that party lasted all offseason. It may still be going. But, as fans, we celebrate by purchasing merchandise. We bought a lot this year.

Top 20 Jersey Sales
Earlier today, MLB.com released the list of the Top 20 Jersey sales, spanning from the end of the 2016 season to Opening Day 2017 on MLB.com. It is no surprise that a Chicago Cubs player tops the list. Or that four Cubs are on the list. But, four of the top five?
Chicago Cubs’ fans, you bought a lot of jerseys. The fact that Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo lead the way in sales further establishes the pair as the new Cub order. The fantastic play of Javier Baez in the playoffs and during the World Baseball Classic, in addition to his international support, pushed his jersey to number three. Additionally, the Legend of Kyle Schwarber grew to place him fifth.
The rest of the list should come as no surprise. Names like Clayton Kershaw, Noah Syndergaard, and Mike Trout pepper the rest of the top 10. What may be surprising, as well as encouraging, is the number of young players that find themselves on the list.
In addition to Bryant, Baez and Schwarber, seven other players on the list are younger than 25. These include Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager (No. 7), Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez (No. 9), Red Sox right fielder Mookie Betts (No. 14) and Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor (No. 16).

The MLB, like the Chicago Cubs, are in great hands. Young players are starting to leave their mark on the game. Or, at least fan are encouraged enough to buy their jerseys.
