The Chicago Cubs are rumored to be shopping Matt Szczur. Could that move lead to a potential call-up before September of Ian Happ? It’s not as far-fetched as you think.

There isn’t a Chicago Cubs fan out there that wants to see Matt Szczur get traded. He’s a quality fourth outfielder that can get the job done at the plate. The only problem is, this season, he’s the fifth or sixth outfielder–and he’s out of options. But the bigger question is if he’s traded, could the door open up sooner for prospect Ian Happ? Save the “he needs seasoning in the minors” or “where’s he going to play?”–if he keeps hitting like he has, Joe Maddon will find a spot for him.

The Cubs have made it abundantly clear that they like to hit in Vegas. The Cubs dropped 22 on the Cincinnati Reds in what could only be classified an outright destruction of property–the Reds pitchers. Albert Almora homered twice to help lead the way as the Cubs beat the Reds 22-4 on Sunday.

When the Cubs traded Jorge Soler for Wade Davis, it felt like a solid trade for both teams. Soler seems like he needed a fresh start, and the Cubs needed a ninth inning guy. But with just a few day left in Spring Training, Davis has more than a few Cubs’ fans concerned. Is this something we should be concerned about, or is Davis just working on finding his rhythm?
