It’s that time of year again. We here at Cubbies Crib make our predictions for the upcoming season. The Chicago Cubs are gearing up for another strong season. Maybe not as strong as we think, but we’ve been right a time or two.

When you’re making predictions for the Chicago Cubs–or any team for that matter–you can’t take yourself too seriously. Sometimes you’re simply happy that it’s been seven months when it’s all said and done. That way, you hope nobody remembers. But occasionally, we get things right. (I guessed the Cubs regular season win total–thanks rain out). So with that, here’s our predictions for the upcoming season.

The Cubs Javier Baez had an impressive run in the playoffs last year. His sparkling defense, timely hitting and Houdini acts on the base paths helped earn him a co-NLCS MVP. He’s carried that over into this season at the WBC in front of the entire world. Even with the loss in last night’s title game, Baez continues to see his stock rise among the young players in the game today.

Matt Szczur is out of options. Plenty of teams–including Atlanta–would be interested in the outfielder. Do the Cubs’ look to get ahead of this and try to get some value for Szczur? Or is his roster spot on this year’s club already claimed? It’s a question that you can’t help asking, even if you think you already know the answer.
